Description

Painting Details:

This is an original, one-of-a-kind painting of the inside of a fig I picked in the Italian countryside. It is an oil painting on professional-grade artist canvas and measures 15.75″ by 15.75″ (40cm by 40 cm). I signed it on the back of the canvas and painted the sides of the painting black. The piece is ready to hang but not framed. Depending on your computer, colors may vary slightly from photographs. Shipping is free to the United States.

Unfortunately, the canvas was damaged during shipping from Italy to the United States: it acquired a small, straight 1cm tear in the upper right-hand side of the canvas in the purple skin of the fig. The canvas has since been professionally patched and repaired and will not tear further. You can see the small canvas patch in the upper right corner on the back of the painting. Since it is no longer in pristine condition I am offering a 50+% studio discount off the price. This is a great opportunity to start or expand your art collection with a quality work of art without breaking the bank. If you have any questions about the piece, please email me directly at Angela@AngelaFaustina.com.

About the Artwork:

My oil paintings turn familiar kitchen scenes into in an arbitrary space where glistening, close-cropped fruit pulp becomes its own vibrant world. Hyper-magnifying the inside of ripe fruit in oil paint pays homage to traditional still life painting while distorting the genre. Varying the scale of my paintings and the species of fruit further heightens the enigma, blurring the boundaries between abstraction and representation, the microcosmic and macrocosmic, attraction and repulsion, and whimsy and the scientific. The imagery is readily identified as organic but from there it can take over the imagination.

The fig is an ancient fruit that has been an important and overwhelmingly positive symbol for the cultures that propagated it for thousands of years. Figs and their seeds symbolize abundance, maturation, knowledge, unity, and truth.

This painting was created during my 5 month stay at the MIRA: International Artist Residency in Italy. It depicts the inside of a delicious fig that I picked while biking through the countryside in Apulia.

As you can see in the last photos, my oil paintings look beautiful displayed together!
