Ripe: Still Life Paintings by Angela Faustina at Harmony Gallery, Sarasota, FL

my solo exhibition Ripe: Still Life Paintings by Angela Faustina at Harmony Gallery presented by Sarasota Orchestra

PRESS RELEASE: Local artist Angela Faustina will show her vibrant still life paintings at Harmony Gallery from February 1 through 26, 2016. The public is invited to meet the artist at the opening reception on Wednesday, February 3 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The art exhibition is presented by Sarasota Orchestra and a portion of all artwork sales will be donated to the organization.

Faustina’s oil paintings reimagine the fruit imagery found in traditional still life paintings. The artist says, “Hyper-magnifying the inside of ripe fruit in oil paint pays homage to traditional still life paintings while distorting the genre, turning familiar tablescapes and kitchen scenes into in an unknown space where the glistening, close-cropped fruit pulp becomes its own world. Varying the scale of my paintings and the species of fruit further heightens the sense of enigma, blurring the boundaries between abstraction and representation, the microcosmic and the macrocosmic, and the whimsical and the scientific.”

The show will include new works as well as several paintings that have never before been exhibited, including Faustina’s popular painting Pomegranate V (73). At 5’5” tall, it is nearly as tall as the artist.

Faustina’s artwork is internationally collected and has been featured in exhibitions in Florida, Italy, and Portugal since 2006. She also completed a 5 month residency at MIRA: Martignano International Residency for Artists in Italy in 2011.

Harmony Gallery is located in the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center, behind Art Center Sarasota, at 709 North Tamiami Trail in Sarasota. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 4:30 and during Orchestra performances.
